Flights cancelled, schools closed before Doksuri strikes

About 16 flights between cities Đồng Hới, Huế, Quảng Bình and from Chu Lai to HCM City and Chiangmai, Thailand, have been cancelled as the tenth tropical storm for the year, Doksuri, headed for coastal central provinces.

ĐÀ NẴNG — About 16 flights between cities Đồng Hới, Huế, Quảng Bình and from Chu Lai to HCM City and Chiangmai, Thailand, have been cancelled as the tenth tropical storm for the year, Doksuri, headed for coastal central provinces.

The budget-priced Pacific Airline said that four flights from HCM City to Chu Lai in Quảng Nam Province and Đồng Hới City in Quảng Bình Province changed schedules.

It said 12 flights from HCM City to Thanh Hóa, Vinh, Đồng Hới; from Huế to Đà Lạt, and Đồng Hới to Chiangmai, Thailand were cancelled yesterday as the storm approached closer to the coastal central region.

The airline will re-arrange new flights as soon as the storm eases.

A ship from Navy Zone 3 rescued 12 fishermen on three broken-down fishing ships off the coast of Đà Nẵng on Thursday night.

A representative from the Navy said the three boats, which were heading to Đà Nẵng port for safety, broke down suddenly as they headed for port.

A navy ship was called to save the fishermen from rough seas on Wednesday night. The three boats were said to be half under water due to big waves and strong wind.

Another ship from the Maritime Rescue and Search Coordination Centre No 2 in Đà Nẵng found a broken-down fishing boat with 11 fishermen from Đà Nẵng in the sea off the coast of Thừa Thiên-Huế. All fishermen were rescued.

The central city’s education and training department closed all schools from yesterday afternoon. — VNS
