HÀ TĨNH — The People’s Committee of Hà Tĩnh central province has decided to withdraw the licence for an iron exploitation project that is yet to be implemented after nine years.
The project, developed by Hà Tĩnh Iron and Steel Joint Stock Company, was approved by the provincial People’s Committee nine years ago with total investment capital of VNĐ158 billion (US$7.02 million). It covers 19ha in Vũ Quang District’s Sơn Thợ Commune.
The project, with designed capacity of 500,000 tonnes of iron ore per year, is expected to generate jobs for thousands of local workers and help boost economic development of Vũ Quang District.
However, after nine years, the project’s investor has still not begun execution of the project.
Local authorities meanwhile, also decided to withdraw the land assigned for the project.
Authorities of Vũ Quang District and Sơn Thọ Commune were requested to increase inspection and supervision to avoid any organisation or individual from illegally exploiting minerals at the project site. — VNS
