HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has asked relevant ministries, agencies and localities to strengthen preventive measures against the spread of dengue fever, noting that it has developed in a “complicated manner” in many countries, including Việt Nam.
Some 58,000 dengue cases have been recorded in 61 provinces and cities of Việt Nam since the beginning of the year, resulting in causing 17 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health’s Department of Preventive Medicine.
Some 55,000 patients have been hospitalised in the first seven months of this year, an increase of 12.6 per cent compared to the same period of last year.
The capital city is third in the country – after HCM City and the central province of Đà Nẵng – with 6,700 dengue patients and three deaths. About 90 per cent of people infected have recovered.
The PM asked local administrations to mobilise people to kill mosquito larvae, closely monitor the development of the disease and effectively handle any new outbreak of dengue fever.
He said dengue patients should receive timely treatment, and inspection and supervision of high risk areas should be stepped up.
He directed the health ministry to guide and monitor dengue fever in all localities, train medical workers in dengue fever diagnosis and treatment, and prepare enough vehicles, equipment and medicines to tackle any outbreak that occurs. — VNS
