HCM CITY — Sixty-four woman in HCM City were recognised with the State title of Vietnamese Heroic Mother for their contributions and sacrifices to the country’s liberation in celebration of the annual 70th Day for War Invalids and Martyrs on July 27.
The awards ceremony was held by the city authority at the Southern Women’s Museum, attended by representatives from the city’s Party Committee, People’s Council and People’s Committee, members of the Standing Committee, and agency officials.
Of 64 heroic mothers, five were awarded and 59 were posthumously awarded.
Speaking at the ceremony, secretary of the city Party Committee Nguyễn Thiện Nhân expressed the gratitude of the Party and Government to heroic mothers who lost their husbands and children on the battlefield for national independence and freedom.
He asked the district authorities to pay more attention to improving the living standard of heroic mothers and policy beneficiaries in compensation for the losses they have suffered.
A representative of a heroic mother’ relatives thanked the Party and Government for their support and promised to contribute to developing the country.
More than 5,000 heroic mothers have been honoured in the city, and 278 of them are still alive, receiving monthly support and special policies from the Government for their lifetime. — VNS
