HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội Traffic Police have launched the inspection of electric cars, cyclos and coaches flouting traffic regulations to reduce accidents.

Đào Vịnh Thắng, head of the Hà Nội Traffic Department, said cyclos and electric cars often operated in restricted areas of the city, such as areas surrounding Hoàn Kiếm Lake, West Lake and Nội Bài International Airport.

Despite a ban, several unauthorised coaches, whose colour is similar to that of the buses, are seen near the city’s key bus stations, such as Giáp Bát, Gia Lâm, Nước Ngầm and Nam Thăng Long. These vehicles usually violate traffic regulations by not following fixed routes and not picking and dropping off passengers at designated points.

During the campaign, which lasts until the end of this month, the traffic police will intensify the checking of cyclos, electric cars, and coaches to determine whether they are unregistered vehicles or carrying more passengers than permitted or oversized goods, Thắng said.

Those vehicles which cross the red line or operate in restricted areas will also be subject to penalties.

On Monday morning, the police penalised 40 cyclo drivers near Ngọc Sơn Temple, who failed to show valid papers or were carrying more passengers than permitted. — VNS
