KON TUM   — Around 15,000 ethnic students in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum will receive 900 tonnes of rice in the first phase of a support programme for the second academic semester this year.

The province’s People’s Committee asked the Department of Education and Training to organise the rice donation for ethnic students.

The department is working with the province’s Department of Finance and local authorities to ensure that the amount is sufficient and that it is of good quality.

The donations are expected to be completed before April 25.

The province asked the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Education and Training to grant another 250 tonnes of rice this year during the second phase in the second semester this year.

Kon Tum has six ethnic minorities – the Gia Rai, Ba Na, Xơ Đăng, Giẻ-Triêng, Brâu and Rơ Măm. Around 59,000 people, or 55 per cent of the population, are ethnic minorities.  — VNS
