BÌNH THUẬN – A fire was reported at the construction site of Vĩnh Tân Thermal Power Plant No 4 in the central province of Bình Thuận on Tuesday morning, according to a Electricity of Việt Nam (EVN) report.

At 10:45am, flames and smoke flared up the chimney of the plant in Tuy Phong District’s Vĩnh Tân Commune.

The fire was controlled by 11:30am, following efforts from the plant’s project management board, contractors, construction units and local firefighters.

According to the initial information, sparks caused by workers welding a pipe ignited part of an insulation system and caused the blaze, EVN said.

But smoke and blaze successfully escaped through chimney of the plant, it said.

According to EVN, no one was injured.

The contractor is checking the plant’s equipment to specify the damage, and the project management board is working with contractor and relevant units to clarify the cause of the incident, it said.

The plant’s trial operation stopped from February 24. At the time of the incident, there were only workers who were installing and adjusting equipment near the chimney, according to EVN.

The construction of the plant, with a total capacity of 1,200MW, officially started on September 2014.

The plant’s first turbine is expected to be put in use in December. – VNS
