HCM CITY – HCM City will undertake 80 traffic projects in 2017 at a cost of VNĐ39 trillion (US$1.7 billion), according to the Department of Transport.
The funds will come from the city and central Government’s coffers and private sources in case of private-public partnership (PPP) projects.
The focus will be on wrapping up projects to ease traffic jams, especially near Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport, Cát Lái Port in District 2 and the downtown area.
The Management Centre of the Sài Gòn River Tunnel last week began construction of three ramps, the first from Võ Văn Kiệt Boulevard up to Nguyễn Tri Phương Bridge in Bình Chánh District, the second going down from the bridge to the boulevard and the third connecting the first ramp with the bridge.
They will totally cost VNĐ194 billion ($8.8 million).
City Party Committee Secretary Đinh La Thăng and Deputy Secretary Tất Thành Cang took part in the groundbreaking ceremony.
The work is expected to finish in late 2017 and help ease traffic flows, Lê Văn Khoa, deputy chairman of the city People’s Committee, said.
The three ramps will respectively be 122m, 149m, and 176m.
The centre will also build a 600m long, 6m wide road along the Tàu Hủ canal and a sewer system underneath it, install lights and plant trees. – VNS
