The Vietnamese student team has won 32 medals - 20 gold medals, 11 silver ones and one bronze - in the seventh World Mathematics Team Championship (WMTC) held in Seoul, South Korea.

HÀ NỘI — The Vietnamese student team has won 32 medals - 20 gold medals, 11 silver ones and one bronze - in the seventh World Mathematics Team Championship (WMTC) held in Seoul, South Korea.

This is the maximum number of medals a student team from Việt Nam has won in its five-season participation. Last year, Việt Nam won one gold, 15 silvers, seven bronzes and four merit medals.

Participants were selected from primary and secondary schools in Hà Nội.

All nine students from Giảng Võ secondary school received medals, including six golds and three silvers, Võ Đoàn Công Thạo, principal of the school said.

Six golds were given to students of class 9A1, namely Lê Hoàng Minh, Đỗ Hải Nhật Minh, Nguyễn Vinh Khánh, Trần Đức Anh, Nguyễn Quang Minh, Vũ Phan Thăng Long.

Ten other gold medals of Vietnamese team were presented to ten students (at individual category) of Trưng Vương, Ngô Sĩ Liên secondary schools, and Trần Quốc Toản, Trưng Vương, Thăng Long, Tràng An, Quang Trung, Trần Nhật Duật primary schools.

The other four gold medals belonged to Việt Nam at teamwork category.

The WMTC has been held annually since 2010. Beijing hosted the first six editions, but this year, it was held in Seoul, South Korea, from November 23 to 27. Around 600 students from 32 teams representing 24 countries and territories took part in the contest. — VNS
