Ships collide off Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu

A ship has sunk and two people are missing following a collision between two ships 118 nautical miles off Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu Province late last night.

BÀ RỊA - VŨNG TÀU — A ship has sunk and two people are missing following a collision between two ships 118 nautical miles off Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu Province late last night.

The Thanh Dat 01 ship was travelling from Phú Mỹ Town in Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu Province to Nghi Sơn Economic Zone in Thanh Hóa Province, when it collided with the Micronesia registered Guo Shun 21 ship.

The Thanh Dat 01 ship sank with 11 people on board, nine of whom were rescued. However, the ship’s Captain Đặng Văn Khuông, 56, and crew member Dương Văn Minh, 45, went missing.

The Việt Nam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre is co-ordinating with relevant units to search for the missing people.

As of 9am today, there was still no sign of them.—VNS
