HCM CITY — The HCM City Department of Transport has called on the administration to build smart parking lots at hospitals to meet the burgeoning demand for parking space at most of them.
It urged the People’s Committee to assist in their construction by offering developers a 50 per cent loan interest subsidy.
The Tân Phát Equipment Joint-Stock Company has offered to build the smart lots under BOT (build-operate-transfer) mode using technologies from Japan and South Korea, the department said.
They would be built on existing lots or other locations in the hospitals, it said.
Demand for parking space at hospitals is massive, overloading existing lots in most places, it said.
Due to a shortage of space, many vehicles are then parked on pavements or even roads, worsening traffic congestion and even causing accidents, it said.
En-parking
The city is considering the construction of smart parking lots.
Experts and officials made a number of suggestions at a recent conference on building en-parking systems in the city and southern provinces.
An en-parking system is a cylinder-shaped glass-walled multi-storey building equipped with lifts to raise and lower vehicles.
Attendees at the conference said each 400sq.m building can accommodate up to 120 automobiles, or 10 times the capacity of a similar surface parking lot.
Their cost is estimated at US$3.2 million, and the fee for an hour of parking is expected to be $1.5.
Bùi Xuân Cường, director of the department, said the city would mobilise investment from the private sector for building them.
