KHÁNH HÒA — A park named after the late lagendary General Võ Nguyên Giáp opened yesterday after two months of construction on Sơn Ca Island in the Trường Sa (Spratly) district of the central province of Khánh Hòa.
The park covers an area of 400sq.m, in the centre of which is a monolithic sandstone statue of General Giáp that is 1.8m high.
About 300 historic photos are also printed on an arc ceramic wall depicting General Giáp’s career in close relation with the Việt Nam People’s Army and well-known battles and victories in the resistance wars against French colonialists and American imperialists.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Deputy Commander of the Việt Nam People’s Navy Ngô Sĩ Quyết said the park is a reflection of Trường Sa soldiers and the army’s deep respect for the general.
It is also to educate the public about the fighting spirit of the army and people, who made contributions towards national liberation and defence, he said. — VNS
