Cyprus has opened a consulate in HCM City and appointed entrepreneur Dr Phan Quốc Công as its honorary consul-general.

HCM City — Cyprus has opened a consulate in HCM City and appointed entrepreneur Dr Phan Quốc Công as its honorary consul-general.

The European nation does not have an embassy in Hà Nội and its affairs in Việt Nam, like issuing visas, were handled by its high commission in India.

Demetrios Theophylactou, Cyprus’s ambassador to India and Việt Nam, on Wednesday  said: “Opportunities in Việt Nam are now significant for Cyprus to involve more directly.”

Trần Thị Hiếu Hạnh of HCM City’s Foreign Affairs Department said: “I would like to congratulate and thank Dr Công for his contributions to strengthening the relationship between the two countries.”

Công got a PhD from the US’s Southern California University in 2003 and is currently attending the Eisenhower Fellowships programme for diplomats.

He is the founder and chairman of ICP company, chairman of Sài Gòn Food, and member of management teams at PNJ, Hoa Thiên Phú, and Mekong Capital. — VNS
