HCM CITY — A four-star hotel on Đà Nẵng’s prime beachfront strip has been slapped with a VNĐ564 million (US$23,200) fine for illegally discharging untreated wastewater and multiple violations of environmental and food safety regulations, city officials confirmed on Tuesday.

ChicLand Danang Beach Hotel, located at 210 Võ Nguyên Giáp in An Hải Ward, was found to have released their wastewater into the environment without treatment, failed to operate its waste treatment system properly, and mishandled hazardous waste.

Inspectors also cited the hotel for incomplete environmental reports and improper solid waste disposal.

The food service area was fined separately for failing to retain food samples and skipping mandatory food inspection steps.

Authorities have ordered the hotel to dismantle its illegal wastewater system, clean up affected areas, and submit a full remediation report.

The violations were uncovered during a joint inspection on July 25, following reports of pollution in the area.

The hotel is located just 8km from Đà Nẵng International Airport and close to East Sea Park, a major beach attraction for both locals and tourists.

In a similar case in June, Temple Resort Danang was fined VNĐ224.5 million for discharging polluted water onto the city’s beachfront.

Both incidents have sparked public backlash and intensified scrutiny of environmental oversight in one of Việt Nam’s top tourism destinations. — VNS
