ĐÀ NẴNG – Students from Việt Nam as well as more than 40 countries and territories around the world will be attending the 25th International Mathematics Competition (IMC) in Đà Nẵng from August 14 to 19.

The event’s organising committee said the IMC is an annual academic playground held on a rotating basis among member countries, bringing together mathematically gifted school students.

It is one of the most prestigious international mathematics competitions for students in upper primary and lower secondary education.

The IMC serves as a valuable international platform that offers young mathematics talents the opportunity to challenge themselves, develop their mathematical abilities, engage in academic exchange, foster creativity and advance their potential in maths research.

At the event, 526 students, 181 teachers and 100 international guests will compete in two divisions: EMIC, or key stage II division (Upper Primary Education) for students in Grades 5-6, and IWYMIC, III division (lower secondary education) with students in Grades 7-8 during the 2024-2025 academic year.

All participants will compete in individual and team events that test well-rounded mathematical knowledge. It will be held at the Việt Nam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology.

The closing and awards ceremony is scheduled for the afternoon of August 18.

Vietnamese students won 11 gold, 16 silver and 28 bronze medals at the Young IMC in Singapore earlier this month.

At the Asia International Mathematical Olympiad in Japan, Việt Nam also won one championship and 10 gold, seven silver and five bronze medals.

Local twins Nguyễn Trí Hiền and Nguyễn Trí Hậu, two students in Grade 11 at Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm High School in Quảng Nam (now Đà Nẵng City), also took home two golds in the International Mathematical Olympiad for High School Students in Turkmenistan in April. VNS
