NGHỆ AN — Military forces in the central province of Nghệ An safely detonated a bomb weighing 350kg left over from the war on Wednesday.
The bomb, still with its original detonator, was discovered by a local resident in Nam Đàn Commune while clearing land for planting trees.
The competent forces confirmed it as an M117 general-purpose bomb, measuring 1.2m in length and 0.4m in diameter. It was located about 4m underground and just 50m from nearby homes. This is the third such bomb detected in the area.
Following the report, the provincial Military Command coordinated with local defence and military units to isolate the area, set up warning signs and deployed personnel to guard the site around the clock to ensure public safety.
After disabling the fuse, the bomb was safely transported to a designated training field in the locality, where it was successfully detonated. — VNA/VNS
