HÀ NỘI — Police have launched an investigation after photographs of a high school exam were uploaded to an AI app, as the test was still underway.

It is understood that the image was loaded to the AI app, StudyX, during the designated test period from 2.30pm to 4pm, prompting public outcry and questions from parents and students about how tightly guarded exam content really is.

In another case, a different student is alleged to have used the AI app Gemini to search for answers during exams in mathematics, history and English.

The Internal Political Security Division of the Hà Nội Police has officially opened a case of inadvertent disclosure of State secrets, under Article 33 of the Penal Code, following the incident that occurred on June 26.

The Ministry of Public Security directed Hà Nội Police to launch an urgent investigation. Officers from the city's Internal Political Security Division, in coordination with the Investigation Security Division and the Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention Unit, quickly moved to verify the source of the leak.

Preliminary findings identified a student, N.V.K, who had secretly brought a mobile phone into the exam room. The student took a photo of part of the maths paper and uploaded it to StudyX in an attempt to seek answers. Only two responses were allegedly copied before the exam ended.

The same student is also suspected of photographing and uploading questions from the chemistry and physics exams held on June 27.

As the investigation widened, police uncovered another case involving a student identified as 18-year-old L.T.M.A, who allegedly used a mobile phone to photograph exams in mathematics, history and English, and used the AI app Gemini for real-time assistance.

The student was caught by the exam supervisors and immediately disqualified.

The case is still under active investigation, and authorities have pledged to handle all violations in accordance with the law.

Hà Nội Police have issued a warning to candidates and their families that using mobile phones to photograph and share exam questions, whether via AI apps, the internet, or with outside parties, during the exam’s confidentiality period is a breach of laws on State secret protection.

Violators may be subject to disqualification, cancellation of exam results, administrative fines, or even criminal prosecution, depending on the severity and impact of the offence. — VNS
