HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s aviation authorities have launched an investigation into an incident that left passengers stranded for 40 minutes in a jet bridge at Tân Sơn Nhất Airport in HCM City, following a delay in opening a glass door.

The incident took place early Sunday morning, after a flight from Đà Nẵng landed in HCM City shortly after midnight. According to media reports, passengers were stuck in the corridor, unable to enter the terminal, because the door connecting the jet bridge remained closed. It was eventually opened by a security officer and an airline staff member more than half an hour later.

Photos published in the reports showed visibly tired passengers waiting in the confined space, raising concerns about the airport’s service quality.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Việt Nam (CAAV) has asked the Southern Airports Authority to work with Tân Sơn Nhất Airport and other relevant units to verify the details of the incident and clarify what went wrong.

The CAAV also called for stricter oversight of airlines and ground service providers to ensure consistent, high-quality service for passengers.

Tân Sơn Nhất Airport has been instructed to review its passenger-handling procedures and coordination between agencies. Officials are expected to identify the root cause of the delay and recommend steps to avoid similar problems in the future. — VNS
