HCM City to invest $2.27b in 4 major road upgrade works

HCM CITY — The HCM City Department of Transport has completed pre-feasibility studies for four road upgrade works that will cost an estimated VNĐ58 trillion (US$2.27 billion).

The work will be carried out on sections of national roads 1, 13 and 22 and the North-South axis road.

On National Road 1, a 9.62km section from Kinh Dương Vương Street to the Long An Province border will be widened at a cost of VNĐ16.27 trillion ($638.7 million).

Of this, VNĐ9.61 trillion ($377.4 million) will come from the city and the rest from private sources and loans.

On National Road 13, the section from Bình Triệu Bridge to the Bình Dương Province border, which spans 6.3km, will be widened at a cost of VNĐ21.72 trillion ($853.1 million), with VNĐ14.7 trillion ($577 million) coming from the city.

On National Road 22, renovation and expansion will be done on an eight-kilometre section from the An Sương Intersection to Ring Road 3 at a cost of VNĐ10.45 trillion ($410.2 million), with the city providing VNĐ6.23 trillion ($244.2 million).

On the North-South road, VNĐ9.89 trillion ($388.5 million) will be spent to upgrade an 8.6km section from Nguyễn Văn Linh Boulevard to the Bến Lức-Long Thành Expressway, with VNĐ4.67 trillion ($183.4 million) of public funds being used.

The projects are meant to ease traffic at the city’s gateways.

The projects will be submitted to the city People’s Council this month for its decision.

They are planned to be completed by 2028. — VNS
