HÀ NỘI — By using population data and identification cards in crime prevention efforts, the Police Department for Administrative Management of Social Order (C06) has arrested 2,034 wanted individuals across the country since 2021.
Following the Prime Minister’s directives, the Ministry of Public Security officially launched the National Database on Population and Citizen Identity Cards on July 1, 2021, after more than a year of implementation.
Under the guidance of the Ministry of Public Security, local police forces have worked with the chairpersons of People's Committees to establish task forces at three levels — provincial, district and communal — across all 63 provinces.
In addition to supporting law enforcement, the database has streamlined administrative procedures by ensuring that population data is accurate and comprehensive. This enables state management agencies to simplify administrative processes and reduce paperwork.
The database has facilitated over 1.6 billion information queries, eliminating the need for citizens to submit notarised copies of documents, shortening processing times and reducing travel expenses.
These efficiencies have saved more than VNĐ500 billion (US$19.83 million) for ministries, sectors and localities, while also fostering a professional, modern and transparent administrative system.
C06 has also developed 35 utilities within the VNeID application. These tools have been embraced by citizens, resulting in over 460 million visits to the platform, with daily usage averaging three to six million visits.
In crime prevention, C06 has handled more than 50,000 queries and verification requests from police units and localities, aiding in the swift apprehension of offenders.
Colonel Vũ Văn Tấn, deputy director of C06, highlighted plans to build on the success of this initiative, known as Project 06/CP. The Ministry of Public Security is advising the government to issue Resolution No. 175-NQ/TW, which aims to establish National Data Centre No. 1 as part of Việt Nam’s digital transformation roadmap.
Colonel Tấn said that Project 06/CP laid a solid foundation for implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, which focuses on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation.
These initiatives were expected to accelerate modern production, reform national governance, foster socio-economic development and prevent the risk of falling behind in global advancements.
"Supported by the National Assembly’s approval of the Data Law, Việt Nam is poised for transformative progress," he said.
Among the technological innovations being implemented by C06 are a digital platform for asset auctions via VNeID, ensuring transparency and cost-effectiveness; an electronic handbook for Party members to facilitate learning and engagement; software for monitoring Party congress progress; and the VNeID National Charity Platform, which supports effective and transparent philanthropic activities for individuals, organisations and local authorities.
According to C06, this system has operated stably since its launch, marking a significant milestone in modernising national governance to meet the demands of international and regional integration. — VNS
