HÀ NỘI — As of November 30, 2024, vehicle inspection centres across Việt Nam conducted approximately 5.4 million inspections, with approximately 16 per cent of vehicles failing to meet technical safety and environmental protection standards.

According to the Vietnam Register, there are 300 vehicle inspection centres nationwide, equipped with 553 inspection lines. Of these, 280 centres and 462 inspection lines are currently operational.

By the end of November 2024, over 4.5 million vehicles successfully passed inspections, while more than 852,000 vehicles failed and required repairs or adjustments before retesting.

In 2024, the Vietnam Register operated under a state-owned enterprise model, effectively managing road usage fees and service charges at inspection centres.

By November 30, 2024, revenue from inspection services reached VNĐ836 billion (US$33 million), surpassing financial targets by 14 per cent.

Meanwhile, road usage fee collections totalled around VNĐ12.7 trillion, achieving 118 per cent of the forecast by the Ministry of Transport.

The Vietnam Register has faced significant disruptions since late 2022 due to legal investigations and resignations that left the sector critically understaffed.

In 2023, more than 900 individuals, including inspectors, were prosecuted or investigated, compounding the human resource crisis.

To address this, the Vietnam Register accelerated recruitment efforts, hiring new graduates and offering professional training.

By November 2024, the Register had certified 489 new inspectors and 290 senior-level inspectors, bringing the total workforce to 1,920, near pre-crisis capacity. — VNS
