QUẢNG NINH — Thousands of families in Quảng Ninh Province who lost their homes or suffered severe damage due to Typhoon Yagi will receive nearly VNĐ100 billion (US$4 million) in emergency assistance, as approved by the provincial People's Council.

Under the new initiative, 122 families whose homes were destroyed or collapsed will receive funding to build new homes, with each household eligible for VNĐ100 million ($4,000).

Additionally, 1,703 households with severely damaged homes will receive VNĐ50 million for repairs.

The province aims to complete this assistance by the end of the year.

Dương Đức Lân, vice chairman of the People's Committee of Phương Nam Ward in Uông Bí City -- a ward where 37 households were affected by the storm -- said after receiving guidance from higher authorities, the locality will focus on reviewing and assisting eligible beneficiaries, ensuring that aid is distributed as quickly as possible.

"Our goal is to help people stabilise their lives while making sure that the right beneficiaries are identified," Lân told the Voice of Việt Nam.

Typhoon Yagi hit Quảng Ninh with wind gusts reaching levels 15-16, leading to the collapse of many homes.

"My family’s house was completely destroyed in the storm. We lost everything, including furniture. Now, with support from the provincial People's Council, we hope to rebuild our home and find shelter from future storms," said Nguyễn Văn Hải, a resident of Quảng Yên Township.
