Man's body found after being swept away by floods in Lào Cai

LÀO CAI — The body of a man who had been swept into a stream during a massive storm in the northern mountainous province of Lào Cai on Thursday evening was recovered the next morning.

Rescue teams are still searching for another missing woman in the same family, according to the Standing Office of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

Hầu A Túc, born in 2001, and Hầu Thị Mơ, born in 2012, both from the same family in Văn Bàn District, went missing on Thursday evening after being swept away by floods caused by torrential rain.

Hầu A Túc’s body was found at 6.30am on Friday about 500m downstream from the place where he was swept away.

From Thursday evening until early Friday morning, lightning storms brought tornadoes and heavy rain to Lào Cai Province, with rainfall estimates ranging from 40 to 50mm. — VNS
