HCM CITY — A short rainfall in several areas in HCM City on Thursday morning (May 2) brought some relief from a record-breaking stretch of scorching days.

The rain, lasting about five minutes in some areas such as districts 4, Bình Thạnh, and Phú Nhuận, and the outlying areas in Districts 12, caught many by surprise.

The rain stopped by 8am, but the overcast conditions continued, leading to a temperature drop of 3-4 degrees Celsius, providing some respite after days of intense heat.

Since late March until Thursday morning, residents of the city have had to endure a heat wave with daily temperatures persisting at over 35 degrees.

From May 4-5 onwards, increased rainfall is expected to help lower the overall temperature.

Over the past four months, the entire region has faced severe heat phases, partially because of the El Nino phenomenon. — VNS
