HCM CITY — Nguyễn Kim Khánh, a second-year student at the University of Economics-Law under Việt Nam National University-HCM City (VNU-HCM), was grateful to get a free bus trip to her hometown for Tết (the Lunar New Year).
She is one of 225 disadvantaged students and six employees to whom the university provided free transport and Tết gifts on February 3.
Since her family is in a difficult situation, she thanked the school.
“This support helps me save some money to return to my hometown in the Tây Nguyên (Central Highlands) province of Đắk Lắk safely.”
This is the first time VNU-HCM is organising the programme, which it calls “Hành trình mùa xuân” (Spring Journey), to provide free buses to disadvantaged students and employees for Tết.
It hired six buses for the purpose.

The beneficiaries are from VNU-HCM’s member universities and others who are boarding at the school's dormitory, its chancellor, Vũ Hải Quân, said.
The free buses will run through 17 provinces and cities on two main routes, one to the central region and the other to the Central Highlands.
Free tickets on passenger buses were also given to 12 students going to Kon Tum, Hậu Giang, Sóc Trăng, Bạc Liêu, and Cà Mau provinces.
Besides, Tết gifts and “lucky money” were given to more than 200 students staying back in the city. — VNS
