HCM CITY — President Võ Văn Thưởng met with disadvantaged people and workers and offered them his warm Tết greetings at the “Tết sum vầy – Xuân tri ân” (Tết reunion – Spring gratitude) programme in Thủ Đức City on February 2.
It was Kitchen God Day, the 23nd of the last lunar month.
He said Thủ Đức City has initiated a number of welfare programmes for disadvantaged people living in the city, nearby localities and remote and mountainous areas.
Many workers lack the financial means to return to their hometown during Tết, and have to remain in the city.
So Thủ Đức City leaders have joined hands to take care of them to ensure everyone could enjoy Tết, he said.
He described the “Tết sum vầy – Xuân tri ân” held by trade unions at all levels annually as a practical programme that provides a warm festival for all.
He urged the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and other agencies that run the programme to expand it to ensure that Tết is full of joy for everyone, especially poor workers and students, and people in difficulties.
He gave away gifts to hundreds of workers, families that are covered by various government policies, and poor people. — VNS
