ĐÀ NẴNG — All crew members of a fishing boat that suffered engine trouble at sea have been rescued and safely brought to shore.

A total of 39 people from Quảng Ngãi Province were onboard the vessel when it got into difficulties off the coast of the Hoàng Sa (Paracel) Islands.

The Đà Nẵng-based Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre No 2 (MRCC2) received emergency calls on the evening of November 20.

A salvage ship from MRCC2, in coordination with other boats from border guard and rescue forces from Bình Định and Quảng Ngãi provinces, found drifting boat after five hours.

Water was filling the lower deck when they arrived putting the lives of crew members in danger, more so as the sea conditions were rough.

They received first aid and medical care and their boat was towed to a port in Quy Nhơn City in Bình Định Province around 7am on November 23.

Rough sea often occurs between October and March, causing hazardous conditions for fishing boats. — VNS
