BÀ RỊA – VŨNG TÀU PROVINCE — The Coast Guard has seized about 90,000 litres of smuggled diesel from a fishing vessel off the coast of the southern province of Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu.

The Đồng Nai Province-based Coast Guard Intelligence Division No. 2 under the Việt Nam Coast Guard (VCG) Command on Wednesday (November 1) said its working team on October 30 stopped fishing vessel KG 95806 TS registered in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Kiên Giang and found oil of unknown origin.

The vessel’s captain, Nguyễn Thành Công, 36, of Kiên Giang Province, and four crew members were on board.

Công failed to furnish documents proving the origin of the oil.

The coast guard officers brought the vessel ashore and handed the case over to the Coast Guard Region No 3 Command based in Vũng Tàu City for further investigation and handling.

On September 22, they also seized more than 260,000 litres of smuggled diesel oil from two offshore wooden fishing boats in the southwest coastal region of Việt Nam.
