Grassroots network for social support approved

HÀ NỘI — Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà on Thursday approved the planning of a grassroots network for social support, aiming to ensure assistance to at least 90 per cent of people in extremely difficult circumstances by 2030.

The plan also sets the goal to increase the number of people receiving care at the grassroots level to 65,000 in 2030, from 45,000 people in 2020.

The capacity of non-public care services is also expected to rise from 30,000 in 2020 to at least 42,000 in 2030.

The number of senior citizens receiving care at social support facilities should also reach 10,000 in 2030, per the document. 

Other goals include providing care and support to minimum 10,000 people with mental illnesses; 15,000 children in difficult circumstances; and 10,000 people with disabilities by 2030.

Social work centres are also planned to cater to at least 20,000 people by 2030.

Meanwhile, rehabilitation centres must ensure services for recovering drug addicts at their locations, the number of which should increase from 38,000 in 2020 to 86,000 in 2030.

In terms of infrastructure, social support establishments should be upgraded, expanded or built anew in accordance with the laws.

The plan aims to develop adequate social workers regarding both quantity and professional qualifications in alignment with regulations on social support and drug rehabilitation, and with the capacity of each facility. — VNS
