ĐIỆN BIÊN — A man was arrested on Monday for smuggling 96,000 pills of synthetic drugs and 11 kilos of crystal methamphetamine into Việt Nam, according to the border force of the northern province of Điện Biên.
Border guards in the northern province of Điện Biên, in collaboration with police and customs, stopped Lầu A Ly at around 8pm on Monday while he was walking from the Laos-Việt Nam border.
Ly threw away two backpacks and attempted to flee but was unsuccessful.
Several parcels containing 96,000 pills and 11kg of crystal methamphetamine, a mobile phone and a walkie-talkie were found in his bags.
He later admitted he was carrying drugs on behalf of a Lao national
Ly, 29, lives in Na Khoang village, Mường Nhà Commune, Điện Biên District.
The case is under further investigation. — VNS
