HÀ NỘI — The C-shaped overpass at the intersection of Chùa Bộc - Phạm Ngọc Thạch in Đống Đa District of Hà Nội opened to traffic on Friday.

The project, which took nearly two years to complete, is expected to alleviate severe congestion in the area.

The overpass is a steel structure with a modular assembly in the shape of a C, allowing two-way traffic from Chùa Bộc Street to Chùa Bộc Street.

It is over 300 metres long, nine metres wide, and was funded with an investment of VNĐ150 billion from the budget of Hà Nội.

Nguyễn Thị Tuyến, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hà Nội Party Committee, attended the opening ceremony to cut the ribbon marking the opening of the overpass Friday morning.

Dương Đức Tuấn,  Vice Chairman of the Hà Nội People's Committee, said the C-shaped overpass is a key transportation project for the city during the 2021- 2026 period.

Hà Nội had planned to build a Y-shaped overpass. However, site clearance on Tôn Thất Tùng Street had not been conducted, so the C-shaped overpass was built first.

In the future, when Tôn Thất Tùng Street is cleared, Hà Nội will add another overpass on this route, connecting to the newly opened C-shaped overpass to complete the Y-shaped overpass.

"The Y-shaped overpass project, once completed, will address the severe traffic congestion at the intersection of Chùa Bộc - Tôn Thất Tùng - Phạm Ngọc Thạch - Đông Tác, which is a densely populated area with many schools, commercial centres, and busy service buildings in the city," said Tuấn. — VNS
