HCM CITY — A 27-year-old woman died after undergoing breast augmentation surgery at a hotel in HCM City, the city’s Department of Health announced on Thursday.

The cause of death has been diagnosed as cardiac arrest and toxic shock due to anaesthesia poisoning.

On June 27th, the woman went to a hotel on Lê Hồng Phong Street in District 10 in HCM City for breast augmentation surgery, which involves the injection of a breast lifting solution. The cosmetic surgery facility, which was based in Cà Mau City, and the woman had agreed to conduct the surgery at the hotel.

The patient's relatives said that the she received injections of lignospan, a red-coloured anaesthetic, on both breasts.

At 10.30am, the patient was brought to the emergency room at Vạn Hạnh General Hospital in a cyanotic condition, with foaming at the mouth, an unmeasurable pulse, and high blood pressure.

Despite conducting emergency measures and intensive resuscitation efforts, the patient, who was a mother of three, died at 12.38pm on June 27th.

The medical records of the deceased patient have been sealed and entrusted for further investigation. — VNS
