VĨNH LONG — Vĩnh Long Province wants to expand cooperation with Japan, especially with Niigata Province, said chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Lữ Quang Ngời at a meeting on Monday with a Niigata delegation.
Speaking to the delegation led by Kanai Kenichi, director of the Niigata Department of Labour and Industry, Ngời noted with pleasure that throughout the 50-year relationship, they have consolidated their cooperation on a multifaceted scale, focusing on economy, finance, and investment.
Located in the centre of the Mekong Delta, Vĩnh Long has great potential to develop agriculture, seafood processing, aquafarming and tourism. It is the largest sweet-potato farming area and also has an annual output of over one million tonnes of rice.
It also has been drawing investments with a total of five industrial areas and seven industrial clusters.
With 65 per cent of its demographic in the working age, the province promises to supply high quality labour when needed. This year, a projected number of 1,700 labourers from Vĩnh Long would be sent to work abroad, mainly in Japan.
For Niigata, it is one of the largest granaries in Japan with high-tech agriculture, and it has great demand for labour in agriculture and seafood processing, he said.
With a similar development orientation, Vĩnh Long wishes to boost cooperation with Niigata in four main fields, including high quality labour training and posting workers to Niigata on short assignments; facilitating financial investments; applying high technology in agricultural production; and organising cultural and tourism activities to strengthen solidarity, Ngời said.
For his part, Kenichi said that Niigata is the leading locality in rice farming output and has several leading manufacturing industries.
The delegation will conduct surveys to promote their cooperation and connect with Vĩnh Long Province in multiple fields in the future, he said. — VNS
