ĐÀ NẴNG – A tour operator is under investigation over allegations she illegally sent people to work abroad.

Nguyễn Thị Tường Vi, of Thừa Thiên-Huế Province, is accused of earning more than US$60,000 by arranging work in Canada for three people.

Police in Đà Nẵng City have also placed the 42-year-old under house arrest.

According to documents, in 2015, Vi established Nguyễn Tường Vi Company as a legal representative operating in the field of study abroad consulting and visa services.

In 2022, Vi and an acquantince named Hạnh, residing in Canada, allegedly discussed arrangements to send people to work in North America using tourist visas.

Around March 2022, Trần Thị Phương Loan wanted to go to Canada to find a job, so she contacted Vi who prepared travel documents and charged her US$18,000.

On February 12 this year, Vi completed the procedures and took Loan to Đà Nẵng International Airport to fly to Canada.

But when she arrived, she was immediately sent back to Việt Nam because she was using a tourist visa for work purposes.

Three days later, another two people from Việt Nam were detained for the same reasons. Police say they paid Vi a total of $49,000.

Investigations are continuing. VNS
