HCM CITY — This year’s Youth Month themed "Youth pioneer the digital transformation" was officially kicked off at a ceremony in HCM City last Sunday (February 26).

The Youth Month 2023 volunteer programmes, organised by the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) of HCM City, will last until the end of March.

It aims to develop the volunteer spirit among young people in the city to take part in the movement of building new-style rural areas and a civilised city, including environmental protection and climate change adaptation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Standing Deputy Secretary of the city’s HCYU Ngô Minh Hải said Youth Month’s key work is to create an online traditional room of the city's HCYU from the existing offline one by applying advanced technologies.

It set out a number of targets such as having at least 600 outstanding youth union members become Communist Party members, and having about 32,000 young Vietnamese join the Youth Union.

It aims to establish 50 new youth union associations at private enterprises, non-governmental organisations, and non-public units.

It also plans to support 25,000 disadvantaged children affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and plant about 400 new trees.

The 3rd Youth Festival 2023 will be held and is expected to attract the participation of about 10,000 youth union members and young people.

All youth unions at the grassroots level will organise ‘Youth with digital transformation’ Day to help about one million young people access basic digital skills, 200,000 people access online public services, and 300,000 people use methods of electronic payment.

At the ceremony, the 14th voluntary programme for young intellectuals announced 30 teams, including young academics, professionals and individuals, to act in community programmes.

It received 10,000 breeding ducks, 30 laptops, 10 water purifiers and 10 bookcases from donors which will be gifted to needy people.
