HCM City expects more agriculture investment from Ontario

HỒ CHÍ MINH — Hồ Chí Minh City expects to welcome more Canadian firms in agriculture, digital transformation and technology sectors to invest in the city.

Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Võ Văn Hoan made the statement during a meeting with the Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Lisa Thompson in the southern city on Monday.

HCM City will also strengthen cultural exchange activities, sharing of experience in human resources training and people-to-people diplomacy activities with Canada.

Thompson said Ontario is also willing to coordinate with HCM City in organising activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

Noting that Ontario is Canada’s largest locality with economic importance to Canada like HCMC to Việt Nam. With strengths in agriculture, Thompson said, Ontario looks to further cooperation with HCM City in this sector.

Among 117 countries and territories investing in HCM City, Canada is the 22th largest foreign investors in the southern city with 119 projects and investment of nearly US$130 million. — VNS
