HCM CITY — The HCM City Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs has given VNĐ700 million (US$30,018) worth of Mid-Autumn Festival gifts including cash to children affected by COVID-19.

Thirty five children orphaned by the pandemic or whose families otherwise faced great difficulties received the gifts with the money drawn from the National Fund For Vietnamese Children.

Võ Sĩ, the department’s deputy Party secretary, said his agency has been caring for older people, orphans and disadvantaged children affected by COVID-19, and seeking donors to offer more support to children.

“I deeply appreciate businesses, organisations, psychologists and others who have helped care for children.”

As of August this year, the department has raised over VNĐ19 billion worth of money to help disadvantaged children and orphans. — VNS
