HÀ NỘI — All the seven Vietnamese students competing at the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) 2022 finished the computer science competition with medals.
With three golds and four silvers, Việt Nam ranked third among the 35 participating countries and territories at the event, behind only China and Russia.
This is Việt Nam's best-ever performance in 10 years of participation in the contest, the Ministry of Education and Training said.
The gold medalists were Trương Văn Quốc Bảo, a 12th grader from the Phan Bội Châu High School for Gifted Students in the central province of Nghệ An; Dương Minh Khôi and Trần Xuân Bách from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences under the Việt Nam National University, Hà Nội (VNU).
The fifteen Vietnamese contestants competed online at the VNU University of Engineering and Technology on May 22.
The virtual APIO 2022, hosted by Egypt, gathered 888 contestants, 186 of whom were nominated for medals.
Earlier this week, at the 2022 Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO), eight members of the Vietnamese national team earned prizes, including one silver medal, two bronze medals and five certificates of merits.
With this result, the Vietnamese delegation ranked 8th after China, Russia, Australia, Taiwan (China), Kazakhstan, India, and Thailand. — VNS
