Delegates ready for 13th Nation Women's Congress

HÀ NỘI — The preparatory session of the 13th National Women's Congress has opened in Hà Nội, attended by 1,000 delegates representing women from different social classes, ethnic groups, religions and sectors, along with about 200 invitees.

Themed "Promoting tradition, solidarity, creativity and integration; building a strong association for the happiness of women and prosperity of the nation", the first day will take place on Thursday in Hà Nội.

The congress will evaluate the women's movement and union's activities over the past five years, and set direction and tasks for the 2022-2027 tenure.

Speaking at the preparatory meeting Hà Thị Nga, president of Việt Nam Women’s Union (VWU) said that in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with the efforts of members nation-wide and the support from Party’s committees and local governments, last year women's congresses was successful at all levels. 

Nga hopes that the delegates promote the spirit of democracy and responsibility to complete the contents of the preparatory session, to well organise official sessions, as well as sideline activities, of the congress.

The 13th Women Congress, which will run until March 13, is an important political event and a great festival of women and unions at all levels across the country, Nga said.

The main tasks of the Congress are to evaluate the implementation of the Resolution of the 12th National Women's Congress; determine the direction, goals, targets, tasks and solutions of the women's movement and union’s activities for the term 2022-2027; review the leadership of the 12th Executive Committee; approve the amended charter of the VWU; elect the 13th Executive Committee; and organise discussion centres for delegates to discuss major issues related to the union’s tasks and solutions in the near future.

In a preparatory meeting, the delegates elected the Presidium consisting of 26 deputies, the Secretariat of three deputies and the Committee for Verification of Delegates' Qualification with nine deputies.

The delegates voted and unanimously approved a report on the verification of delegate qualification presented by Bùi Thị Hồng, member of the Presidium, Head of the Organisation Committee of the Central Committee of the Việt Nam Women's Union, and Head of the Committee for Verification of Delegate Qualifications.

The delegates also listened to a report that collected comments and opinions to the draft Political Report, and the VWU’s Charter presented by Trần Thị Hương, VWU vice president. They also agreed with a number of contents and regulations related to the congress.

In the framework of the preparatory session, the organisation committee honoured and rewarded 13 works of overcoming difficulties and creativeness.

Previously, the VWU central committee launched a special emulation round of 130 difficult, creative and effective works to celebrate the 13th National Women Congress, 2022-2027 tenure.

The campaign was widely implemented to all levels of the union and women with several diversified, creative and flexible organisational forms and close to practical needs and effective implementation of political tasks of the country and each locality.

More than six months after launching, the organisation received many meaningful works from all levels of the union across the country.

This was a special competition to continue to raise awareness and responsibility of officials, members, women from all walks of life about the role, position and contributions of union members for the country’s development, as well to praise the results, initiatives, good practices and new models of individuals and collectives, to promote and replicate effective methods nationwide.
