16,278 new coronavirus infections confirmed nationwide, Hà Nội registers record 2,723 cases

The capital Hà Nội had a record 2,723 new COVID cases on Friday, as 16,278 infections were registered across the country in 59 localities.

HÀ NỘI — The capital Hà Nội had a record 2,723 new COVID cases on Friday, as 16,278 infections were registered across the country in 59 localities.

The new cases bring Việt Nam's COVID-19 tally since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,859,841.

Twenty-four of the new transmissions were imported and quarantined upon arrival. 

The other infections were found in Hải Phòng (795), Khánh Hòa (790), Bình Phước (716), Vĩnh Long (699), Cà Mau (676), Bình Định (667), Tây Ninh (583), Trà Vinh (498), HCM City (489), Bến Tre (443), Hải Dương (443), Bắc Ninh (351), Quảng Ninh (345), Hưng Yên (319), Đà Nẵng (309), Thanh Hóa (275), Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu (263), Hà Giang (263), Lâm Đồng (245), Thừa Thiên Huế (235), Kiên Giang (229), Cần Thơ (213), Bạc Liêu (210), Hòa Bình (197), An Giang (188), Quảng Ngãi (186), Quảng Nam (173), Nam Định (172), Thái Nguyên (165), Bắc Giang (162), Quảng Trị (160), Vĩnh Phúc (157), Hậu Giang (148), Đồng Tháp (135), Thái Bình (132), Nghệ An (131), Đồng Nai (127), Bình Thuận (121), Đắk Nông (106), Phú Thọ (103), Hà Nam (98), Tiền Giang (97), Sơn La (96), Sóc Trăng (91), Yên Bái (73), Phú Yên (56), Quảng Bình (54), Bắc Kạn (53), Bình Dương (52), Ninh Thuận (39), Tuyên Quang (35), Long An (32), Lai Châu (32), Cao Bằng (31), Lào Cai (27), Kon Tum (23), Điện Biên (21) and Gia Lai (2).

Health authorities also announced 233 COVID-related deaths, raising the nation's death toll since the pandemic started to 33,877.

A total of 14,633 patients recovered, pushing the total number given the all-clear to 1,479,048.

Việt Nam has recorded 30 Omicron infections so far. All have been imported cases, including in Hà Nội (1), Quảng Nam (14), Hồ Chí Minh (11), Hải Dương (1), Hải Phòng (1) and Thanh Hóa (2).
