HCM CITY — Nguyễn Võ Quỳnh Trang, 26, from Gia Lai Province, is to be prosecuted for abusing an 8-year-old child to death.

According to initial reports, authorities received the news that a young child was delivered to the emergency room of a hospital in Ward 22, Bình Thạnh District, HCM City.

The girl was in a coma and suffered from cardiac and respiratory arrest. She was declared as being dead before arriving at the hospital.

During the autopsy, doctors found that the young girl had major bruises all over her body, as well as faded suture scars around her face. She also suffered from acute pulmonary oedema, broken ribs, and signs of hematomas and cerebral oedema on her head. 

Suspecting that the child suffered abuse prior to her demise, the police launched an investigation.

It was reported that the 26-year-old woman was the fiancée of the child’s father. The three had been living together at an apartment in Bình Thạnh District since mid-2020.

On the afternoon of December 22, while the father was out for work, Trang grew frustrated while she was tutoring the girl at home. 

She then scolded and beat the child using a large wooden stick. 

At 6pm on the same day, the 8-year-old child started vomiting and Trang called the father to come home and perform first aid.

The child was then rushed to the emergency room but died on the way to the hospital. 

Neighbours’ testimonies revealed that the child suffered from violence numerous times before the fatal event.

Trang is in detention and will be prosecuted. — VNS
