CỬU LONG DELTA — Cần Thơ City and six provinces in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta region on Tuesday reached an agreement on enhancing cooperation in pandemic prevention and control and economic recovery at an online meeting.
The meeting, hosted by the Cần Thơ City’s People’s Committee and its Department of Planning and Investment, included the leaders of An Giang, Kiên Giang, Hậu Giang, Sóc Trăng, Bạc Liêu and Cà Mau provinces.
The agreement focused on health, agriculture, trade and services, information and communications, transport, and jobs and labour.
Phạm Văn Hiểu, standing deputy secretary of Cần Thơ City’s Party Committee and chairman of the city’s People’s Council, said: “Regional linkages will improve connections and increase sharing of experiences in State management among localities in order to help us solve problems in a harmonious way.
“It also contributes to attracting cooperation from economic entities, particularly businesses,” he added.
Cần Thơ City and the six provinces agreed to build a common data system in pandemic prevention and control, share vaccine and medical essentials, and provide support for treatment of COVID patients and people with terminal diseases.
They plan to promote connections among agricultural producers, suppliers and distributors, increase sales of their specialties and agricultural products on online trading platforms, and develop tourism promotion activities.
The seven localities also agreed to recover transportation networks, and build a priority lane for transporting medical equipment, essential goods and forces serving pandemic prevention and control.
They will also share information about labour demand through job transactions.
Trần Văn Lâu, chairman of Sóc Trăng Province’s People Committee, said the seven localities should organise regular meetings to review the results of the agreement, and then expand cooperation in other fields.
Trần Việt Trường, chairman of Cần Thơ’s People’s Committee, said the agreement would be discussed in detail to solve obstacles and help the seven localities use their resources efficiently and stabilise people’s lives.
He said that after reviewing the agreement, the localities would develop cooperation in other fields like national defence and security, and disaster prevention and control, and would expand connections with other Cửu Long Delta provinces, HCM City and the southeastern region. — VNS
