HÀ NỘI — A State funeral will be held for Nguyễn Đức Bình, former member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee, former Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council and former Director of the Hồ Chí Minh National Academy of Politics, who passed away on Thursday.
In an announcement, the CPV Central Committee, National Assembly, President, Government, Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and Bình’s family said that despite receiving attentive care by the Party, State, professors, doctors and his family, Bình passed away at 12:44am on Thursday at the Central Military Hospital 108 due to old age and serious illness.
A 23-member board has been established for the State funeral, headed by Politburo member, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and head of the committee’s Organisation Commission Phạm Minh Chính.
Nguyễn Đức Bình is lying in state at the National Funeral Hall at 5 Trần Thánh Tông Street, Hà Nội. The respect-paying ceremony will take place from 7am to 10am on Saturday, followed by a memorial service. He will be buried in his home province of Hà Tĩnh on Sunday.
Nguyễn Đức Bình was born on September 9, 1927. He participated in revolutionary activities in August 1945 and became a member of the CPV in 1946.
He was a member of the CPV Central Committee in its 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th tenures, and a member of the Politburo in its 7th and 8th tenures. — VNS
