HÀ NỘI — Police said on January 31 they are investigating wrongdoings relating to Đinh Ngọc Hệ, alias Út trọc, and Thái Sơn Development and Investment JSC under the Ministry of Defence that occurred in Hà Nội.
The Ministry of Public Security’s Investigation Police Agency on January 29 decided to launch criminal proceedings against Hệ, former chairman and former general director of Thái Sơn JSC on a charge of “abusing position and power to influence others for personal gain”, stipulated in Article 358 of the Criminal Code 2015, reportedly for his responsibilities in the wrongdoing-riddled VNĐ1.9 trillion (nearly US$92 million) Build-Transfer-Operate (BOT) project Việt Trì bridge in Hà Nội.
In July last year, Đinh Ngọc Hệ was already sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Central Military Court for “abusing position and power while performing official duties”, and another two years for “using falsified documents of agencies and organisations”.
The Central Military Court upheld the verdict at a court of appeals in November. — VNS
