HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has decided to impose disciplinary measures against Nguyễn Bắc Son for the grave violations he committed during his tenure as the Minister of Information and Communications.
Accordingly, in Decision No. 1433/QD-TTg issued on October 26, the PM decided to strip him of the title of former Minister of Information and Communications of the 2011-16 tenure.
On October 26, the 12th Communist Party of Việt Nam Central Committee (CPVCC) also took disciplinary measures against Son, who was a former member of the CPVCC, former Secretary of the Party Civil Affairs Committee and former Minister of Information and Communications, by removing him from the posts of member of the 11th CPVCC and Secretary of the Party Civil Affairs Committee of the Ministry of Information and Communications for the 2011-16 term.
In mid-July, the Politburo convened a meeting to consider disciplinary measures against Son and other organizations and individuals involved in State-owned telecom corporation Mobifone’s acquisition of 95 per cent of shares of private Audio-Visual Global JSC at a suspiciously high price that did not reflect the value of the company.
Son’s wrongdoings were considered “very serious” and caused significant losses to State coffers, adversely affecting the equitisation process and operations of Mobifone, as well as undermining the reputation of the Party and the Ministry of Information and Communications. —VNS
