Laos extends condolences to Việt Nam over former Party leader’s death

 The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, the National Assembly, Government, and the Lao Front for National Construction’s Central Committee yesterday extended condolences to the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee, National Assembly, Government and the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee over the passing of Đỗ Mười, former General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee.

VIENTIANE — The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, the National Assembly, Government, and the Lao Front for National Construction’s Central Committee yesterday extended condolences to the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee, National Assembly, Government and the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee over the passing of Đỗ Mười, former General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee.

“We highly value the achievements and great contributions of Comrade Đỗ Mười during the struggle for national independence in the past, as well as in the nation-building and construction of the country during the 80-plus years of his revolutionary career,” read the message.

It also highlighted the contributions that Đỗ Mười made to the reinforcement of friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples.

The passing away of Đỗ Mười is the loss of a close friend of the Party, State, and people of Laos, it added. The Lao side also extended deep condolences to the family of Đỗ Mười.

Đỗ Mười passed away at 23:12 on Monday at Military Hospital 108 in Hà Nội. — VNS
