HÀ TĨNH — The People’s Court of the central province Hà Tĩnh yesterday sentenced Nguyễn Văn Hoá, born in 1995, to seven years’ imprisonment for anti-State propaganda.

The resident of Kỳ Khang Commune, Kỳ Anh District, has also been banned from leaving his residential location for three years after his release.

According to the verdict, from 2013 to 2017, Hoá set up a number of social network accounts to post information slandering and defaming the Government and Party.

In 2016, Hoá made video clips and took photos on the Formosa-caused maritime environmental incident and floods in Hà Tĩnh and posted them on social media to incite citizens to gather to protest the Government.

Particularly, in October 2016, he and others instigated people to protest at Formosa’s main gate. He recorded and posted a protest video clip on social media, calling on locals in the region to damage Formosa’s property and cause social disorder in the area.

Later, Hoá moved to HCM City to work but continued using social media to spread documents that contained anti-government information causing disconcertment among the public.

On April 6, 2017, Hà Tĩnh police issued a decision to start legal proceedings against Hoá and detained him for three months.

At court, Hoá admitted his wrongdoings and expressed his repentance and wish to redeem his faults. — VNS
