HÀ NỘI — Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng presided over a red-carpet welcome ceremony for Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and State President, on Sunday.
The ceremony, held at the Presidential Palace, was attended by scores of high-ranking officials and members of the Party Politburo.
Following the ceremony, the two leaders held talks at the headquarters of the CPV Central Committee.

Trọng spoke highly of Xi’s visit and his attendance at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting that concluded in the central city of Đà Nẵng on Saturday.
He also congratulated Xi on the success of the CPC’s 19th National Congress and on his re-election as the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, the 19th tenure.
The visit affirms the importance given by the Chinese Party and State to consolidating and boosting relations with Việt Nam, and is an important milestone that will charts a new development course for the two countries, he said
