HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam wants to attract more investment from the US, especially in finance, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc told former US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, who is President of Warburg Pincus, during a reception in Hà Nội yesterday.

The PM congratulated Warburg Pincus on reaching financial investment deals with VinaCapital Fund and affirmed that Việt Nam wanted major foreign investors to become strategic partners in equitised firms in the country.

The Vietnamese business environment keeps improving while the macro-economy and socio-political environment have been stable, according to Phúc.

The Vietnamese government planned drastic reforms in various fields, especially regarding State-owned enterprises, he said, adding that during the process, the government, ministries and agencies always listened to the opinions of businesses so as to continue improving the business climate.

Geithner expressed his optimism about Việt Nam’s economic prospects and growth potential in the near future.

He said it was the right time for Warburg Pincus to increase investment in Việt Nam because the government was stepping up economic and administrative reforms, thus making it easier for foreign investors to expand operations in the country. — VNS
