HÀ NỘI — National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân has said the visit of Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim is a milestone in bilateral ties and reiterated the importance Việt Nam attaches to Turkey as a trade partner.

Welcoming the Turkish PM in Hà Nội yesterday, the NA Chairwoman said she hoped the talks between Binali Yildirim and Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, along with co-operative deals signed and the business forum held during the visit, would open up a new chapter in the economic and investment partnership between the two countries.

On ties between the two countries’ parliaments, the top legislator regretted that delegation exchanges have not been frequent, expressing hope that friendship parliamentarians’ groups would work as a bridge to promote ties between the two legislatures.

Ngân suggested increasing visits and contacts between high-ranking officials of the two countries to enhance political trust and expand co-operation. The two countries should also co-ordinate at regional and international forums, she said.

PM Binali Yildirim said he was pleased to be the first Turkish PM to make an official visit to Việt Nam. He hailed Việt Nam’s important position in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and asked the country to help Turkey boost ties with ASEAN countries. — VNS
